Player of the Game, Vojtech Hruban, Continues His Great Run of Form with a 19-Point, 6-Rebound and 4-Assist Performance to Help Bury the Gladiators
As with their 34-point demolition of the Plymouth City Patriots, many would think the Ryan Schmidt-led London Lions would take their foot off the gas in their last game of the season. But as the basketball world found out on Friday, 21st April 2023, that’s simply not coach Schmidt’s nor the London Lions’ philosophy.
The player of the game, Vojtech Hruban, followed his 25-point display against the Patriots with another stellar performance recording 19 points, six rebounds, and four assists during his 25 minutes on the court. The small forward achieved his points on efficient 72/50/100 shooting splits to help puncher the Caledonian defence.
Jordan Taylor followed with 12 points, four rebounds, six assists and one steal. Captain Aaron Best and Tomislav ‘Zuba’ Zubčić finished the game with seven points. Best complimented his points production with one rebound, two assists, two steals and one block. Whereas ‘Zuba’ contributed five rebounds and four assists.
Tarik Phillip, still on a minutes restriction following his debut, grabbed three boards, blocked one shot and had the assist of the day when he dimed Josh Sharma for an alley-oop dunk.
The Lions bench outscored the Caledonian bench 16-44. Morayo Soluade led the haul of bench points with 16 of his own, shooting 72% from the field and 66% from 3-point range. Soluade grabbed four rebounds and dished out four assists during his team-leading 29 minutes on the hardwood. The Berkshire native also helped to suffocate the Gladiator offence with three steals.
Luke Nelson recorded 14 points, three rebounds, six assists, and one steal to help the Lions apply pressure on their Scottish rivals. His Team GB teammate, Josh Sharma, just missed out on a double-double recording 14 points and eight rebounds to go with his three blocks.
