After a gut-wrenching defeat on Tuesday night against Paris, the Lions bounced back with a huge league victory in Newcastle.
The reigning British Basketball League champions showed character to keep their unbeaten league record still intact. Canadian Conor Morgan led the Lions in scoring, picking up 17 points in just 23 minutes.
Although the Eagles began brightly, the visitors went on to find their groove in the first quarter and led by eight in what was a relatively high scoring first quarter. 52 points were converted between both teams, with London scoring 30 of them.
Heading into half-time, the Lions led Newcastle 60-35 after another free-scoring period for the visitors. The highlight of the first half saw Gabe Olaseni finish with a dunk that was easy on the eye, with his conversion coming off a behind-the-back pass from Luke Nelson.
It was a tall mountain to climb for the hosts, who did show fight in the third quarter. The Eagles put up 28 points but didn’t make huge progress in trimming the deficit as the Lions continued to score with ease themselves.
Gabe Olaseni continued to do a bit of everything as the game came to a close. The 6’11 big man was just one assist away from a triple-double, which would have been the icing on the cake in a spirited bounce back performance from the Lions.
The London Lions move to an impressive 11-0 in the British Basketball League, where they have been nothing short of remarkable so far.
