The London Lions welcomed a struggling Leicester side to East London in a superhero themed afternoon at the Copper Box.
The previous eight match-ups between the two teams had all gone in favour of the hosts, who were looking to keep their impressive run alive against the Riders.
The opening quarter saw the two teams go head-to-head, with Leicester competing against the Lions in what looked to be an evenly contested affair. There was a bright start from Tarik Phillip and Conor Morgan, who combined for all of London’s points after five minutes of action.
Despite the visitor's best efforts, a sudden London flurry created an 11-point separation between the two sides heading into the second quarter. From here, the pace of the game changed due to a high volume of fouls. The match was being played at a much more mellow pace, which seemed to suit the style of the Riders.
The Lions were held to just 16 points in the second quarter and failed to add anything significant to their lead, which excited Leicester heading into the second half of the game.
However, London came out firing in the third quarter and outscored their opponents by 16 points in that 10-minute span. The hosts shot 60% from behind the arc in the game, which was far too much for the away side to compete with.
It was raining buckets in the capital as the reigning champions continued to find success until the final buzzer. With 100 points on the board, the Lions found victory in their 20th game of the season - making their new record 17-3.
