Asante brothers help Barking Abbey win again
Brothers Peter and Stephen Asante combined for 35 points to help Barking Abbey Lions maintain their perfect record in the Elite Academy Basketball League with an 88-81 home win against John Madejski Academy, on Wednesday.
Peter Asante led the way with 18, with his brother Stephen adding 17 and Joe Buchanan 15 while Rockets received 18 points from forward Kivuvu Live.
The young Lions did the hard was a 10-0 burst midway through the first period helped Rockets lead 24-12 after one quarter. Buchanan’s triple capped a 12-5 run as the hosts battled back and Ed Colley tied the game at 33 before six straight Rockets’ points saw them go into the locker room 39-33 ahead.
Abbey still trailed by eight midway through the third period but the Asante brothers exploded down the stretch combining for 13 points in a 15-2 run to lead 66-60 at the final break, A D Cashilli triple saw Lions’ lead grow to eight points after four fourth period minutes but two Kitchen triples saw Rockets take a 77-75 lead with two and a half minutes remaining.
But two three point Buchanan plays and one from Cashilli put Lions back in charge and five Stephen Asante points wrapped up the victory.
New City College Lions stretched their winning run to six games as they hammered Norwood School 103-44.
Andre Lockhart’s team never looked back after a 32-11 first period, and went into the locker room with a 56-23 lead. That grew to 78-37 at the final break before Lions completed the win with a 25-7 fourth period.
U Ojubanire led Lions with 25 points while B Alajandro add 22 and L Bennett 15.
