Division One side in action at Barking Abbey
London Lions men’s Division One team will look to continue their good start to the league season when they host Essex Rebels at Barking Abbey, at 4pm on Saturday.
James Vear’s side have won three of their opening four games to sit fifth in the table, while Rebels are one of three sides who’ve started the league season with four straight losses.
With star point guard Sam Newman having moved on to Hemel Storm, Tom Child and Jordan Gray have stepped up for Rebels this season. Former Essex Leopards’ guard Child leads them in points with 15.25ppg, adding 5.25 rebounds and two assists per game, while Gray leads them with three assists and as many steals, adding 15 points per game. Josh Moore adds a team-high 5.7 rebounds to his 7.3 points.
The two sides did meet at University of Essex in late September, with Rebels winning a thrilling L Lynch Trophy tie 91-87, although neither side progressed to the knockout stage.
Lions’ junior teams also have plenty of games, with a full day’s action at St Bonaventure’s School starting with the under-14 boys hosting St Albans Wolves followed up by the under-16 girls hosting the Wolves. The under-16 boys II are next on court as they face neighbours Barking & Dagenham Thunder and the day’s action is wrapped up at 5pm as Ipswich are the visitors to play the under-18 men.
