The games keep on coming for London Lions women as they host Durham Palatinates at University of East London on Sunday afternoon, tip-off 3pm.
It's a big weekend for Mark Clark's women's side as they put their 16 game domestic winning streak on the line against Nottingham Wildcats in the WBBL Trophy semi-final on Saturday before hosting Durham on Sunday but with the north east side sitting 11th in the WBBL Championship table with a 3-9 record. it's a game London will expect to win.
Lions will be looking to complete a double over Lee Davie's team as a 50-19 first period paved the way for a comfortable 87-47 victory Cassie Breen led the way for Lions that day with four triples in her 24 points while Joe Leedham added 18 points and Steph Umeh 13 points with all players playing under 23 minutes each..
Abi Lowe has certainly been a hit for Davie's team switching from neighbours Newcastle Eagles, averaging 22.3 points and 5.7 rebounds in her three games as she returned to last season's form. Elle Hendershot led Durham prior to Lowe's arrival averaging a 14.6 point, 11.5 rebound double-double and dishing out 4.8 assists per game.
Clark acknowledges the difference Lowe has made to the Durham side:
“We can’t be complacent against them, especially since Abi came on board and made them a much more dynamic team” he said.
“They have people who score, Lowe can get a lot of points and Katie Bennett is solid. They’re well coached and we won’t take them lightly.”
Clark goes into the weekend with only one injury worry as Leah McDerment’s ankle problem seems likely to keep her sidelined for another week.
