Lions’ coach James Vear was delighted with his team’s performance as Sunday’s 90-79 victory at Manchester Giants set up a BBL Trophy semi-final with Bristol Flyers.
“It was good and I felt that it was the first time since I took over that we have started to click offensively” he said.
“We played the way the coaching staff have been looking for, the changes we have made have started to pay off and we showed what we can do if we’re locked in.”
After a dominant first half, Giants made a late run before Lions wrapped up a win in the competition they won last season, and Vear admitted that the home side make life difficult for his team:
“Defensively we were really good in the first half, and okay in the third period but they came back at us pretty hard in the fourth and made it pretty hard going."
“But they’re a good team and have a great coach in Lloyd [Gardner], so we knew they’d have a plan. We hit some big shots near the end and it was pretty comfortable in the last couple of minutes,”
The big games keep coming for Lions as they host Bakken Bears in the FIBA Europe Cup on Wednesday (7.30pm) before BBL Championship leaders Leicester Riders are the visitors on Sunday (4pm).
