Barking Abbey and New College still perfect
Barking Abbey Lions academy continued their perfect start to their Elite Academy Basketball League season with a thrilling 81-78 overtime victory at Itchen College, on Wednesday.
Peter Asante continued his fine season with 27 points, with his brother Stephen adding 17 and Denilson Caschili 10 as Lions stayed top of the table with a perfect 4-0 record
Lions’ women were unable to make it a double celebration for the academy as they slipped to a 86-78 at Itchen.
Fatmata Joseph had another excellent game with a 37 point haul while Tinu Fakunle added 13 but it wasn’t enough to prevent them falling to a second straight loss of the season.
New City College made it seven straight wins in the Academy Basketball League with a 66-63 victory at St Thomas Apostle College.
In a game played in farcical conditions with the home side’s assistant coach refereeing it on his own, Andre Lockhart’s team showed composure to maintain their perfect season.
The visitors led 23-19 at the first break but were outscored 16-10 in the second period to trail by two at half-time. A 16-12 third period put the young Lions back in front and they edged the final quarter by a point to seal the win.
U Ojubanire continued his excellent season with 19 points with L Bennett adding 13 and O Israel- Olalekan 12 as Lions reached the halfway stage of their league campaign with an unbeaten record.
